Festivals and romarias of Paredes de Coura

The authentic Minho, from June to October

The Minho is the land of festas and romarias — village festivals (a romaria is a religious pilgrimage-festival) that blend procession, music, fireworks and long shared tables. In Paredes de Coura, they set the rhythm of the whole summer. Far from the tourist crowds, this is the real northern Portugal: warm and full of life.

A calendar that runs all summer

The festivals and romarias run from mid-June to early October, parish by parish across the municipality. Every village has its own celebration, usually built around its patron saint: Espírito Santo, São Tiago, Santo António, São João, São Paio… Traditional music, processions, dances and local food — a chance to see the Minho exactly as it is lived.

The Festas do Concelho (August)

The big event is the municipal festivities in August. The programme brings together a fine spread of traditions:

Sabores do Rio and food

The region celebrates its table too: the Sabores do Rio festival puts local produce and Minho cooking centre stage. Vinho Verde, river trout, sarrabulho, smoked charcuterie — the food is part of the festival.
