A family weekend in the Minho: our guide

Nature, quiet and short distances, for two or three days

Taking the family to the Minho means swapping queues for country lanes and a river where the children spend the whole afternoon. No packed schedule, no long drives: everything is close by, and that is precisely what makes the weekend restful for everyone.

Why the Minho with the family

The region ticks the right boxes without even trying. It is green, it is quiet, and above all everything is a short distance away: the river, the villages, the trails. You do not spend the day in the car, which changes absolutely everything when you are travelling with children.

The river beaches do the rest. Clear, cool water, shallow areas, shade under the trees: little ones stay for hours. And in the evening, the silence of the countryside works wonders at bedtime.

Ideas for two or three days

Day one: settling in

Arrive, unpack, let the children explore the grounds. A short stroll along the lanes around the house is enough to set the tone. In the evening, a barbecue on the terrace — often the moment the children remember.

Day two: the river

Head for the river beaches of the rio Coura. Set aside the whole day: swimming, a picnic in the shade, naps on a towel. In summer, get there early to have your pick of the spot.

Day three: village and trails

An easy walk in the morning, through the stone hamlets, the watermills and the viewpoints over the valley. Then a wander round the village, before setting off home at an unhurried pace.

The family house

For a family, a real house beats a hotel room. Outeiro 2 is 150 m² and sleeps up to 6 people: room for everyone to breathe, an equipped kitchen for preparing meals at your own pace (essential with children), and a terrace with a barbecue facing the valley.

For a smaller family, Outeiro 1 offers 75 m² for up to 4 people. Both houses are independent and can also be booked together when several households travel as one group. 1 Gbit/s Wi-Fi covers them both, for rainy evenings and emergency cartoons.

Pets welcome

The dog is part of the family, so the dog comes too. Pets are welcome, for an extra charge of €20. Around the house, the farm tracks give you plenty of room to walk them.

24/7 self check-in

This is the detail that counts for most when you travel with children. Check-in is self-service, at any hour: no appointment to keep, no host waiting, no stress if the journey runs long or a nap shifts everything. You arrive, you let yourself in, you settle down.
